I grew up in a Catholic family, went to church, attended Catholic school, but what transformed my heart was a mission trip in Haiti.  I found more love, compassion, and companionship amongst the poorest in the world than any other experience in my life.

January is the month of new resolutions and beginnings. Integration and growth in our journey of life requires going forth and stepping across the thresholds of our comfort zone. We cannot move toward something new unless we are willing to step beyond what we know and are comfortable with. I’m always amazed by the miracle of the Eucharist. Not so much by the fact that God turns ordinary bread and wine into Jesus’ body and blood, soul and divinity, however. If you can create everything from nothing, turning one thing into another really isn’t that big of a deal.

I have to be honest, there are too many times when the Church’s PR efforts need some genuine improvement. While this latest synodal process has been going on for some time, I encounter a lot of Catholics who just don’t understand what this is all about. What is a Synod on Synodality?
