St. Paul tells us in his Letter to the Colossians, “For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross (vv. 19-20).”

Discernment means to think through our decisions and actions, not just by rational calculation but by listening for His Spirit, recognizing in prayer God’s motives, invitations, and will.

The passing of Pope Benedict XVI is for me a joyous occasion. As people of faith, we know that for those who have run the good and long race of tireless service to the Gospel, the time eventually comes to go home to rest.
